The Creative Exchange Cultural Festivals are an exciting annual series of events designed to celebrate the rich diversity of global cultures and bring immersive arts experiences to the heart of Ebbsfleet. These festivals offer the community an opportunity to explore traditions, stories, music, and food from around the world, creating unforgettable shared experiences that educate and inspire. Here’s a look at some of the highlights from recent years.

A Bollywood Journey (November 2024, Eastgate Community Centre)

This dazzling event transported attendees straight onto the set of a Bollywood film. With vibrant decor, immersive performances by professional actors, and delicious chai and food provided by local businesses, this event was a feast for the senses. Guests experienced the energy and excitement of Indian culture through immersive arts, music, and dance workshops, offering a unique opportunity for many to engage with Indian traditions for the first time. The festival was a vibrant celebration of community and culture, bringing people together in a joyful, cinematic atmosphere.

African Fusion (March 2024, Castle Hill Community Centre)

A celebration of the global impact of African music, African Fusion was a high-energy event showcasing the continent’s musical diversity. The day featured mesmerising performances by traditional Kenyan drummers, dynamic workshops on African rhythms, and an electric set from a London-based Afrobeats artist. Attendees explored the deep roots of African music and its profound influence on global sounds while enjoying an inclusive and interactive experience that bridged cultures and generations.

“Fantastic event. Loved how the diverse range of African culture was platformed. Especially, enjoyed the fact that the event was not hosted during black history month. I think it will add to the efforts to bring together the Afro-Caribbean community in Dartford!”

Tales of the Lost Worlds (March 2023, Various Locations Across Ebbsfleet)

This immersive storytelling event took audiences on a journey through folk tales from around the world, with stories told in community settings across Ebbsfleet including Swanscombe church & Jubilee Park in Castle Hill. To ensure accessibility, attendees were transported between locations by free minibus.

Each tale was brought to life with bespoke sets by local artists, transporting audiences into the heart of each story:

  • Rakshasa: A chilling Southeast Asian folktale about vampires.
  • The Girl Who Married the Skull: A haunting Nigerian story blending humour and horror.
  • Baba Yaga: An Eastern European tale about a cunning witch.
  • A Latin American Postcard Hunt: Families uncovered postcards scattered around Northfleet, each telling a piece of a vibrant Latin American folk story. Take a look at the postcards here.

This event captivated imaginations and showcased the timeless power of storytelling to connect cultures and communities.

Fiesta Latina (November 2022, Eastgate Community Centre)

The festival that started it all, Fiesta Latina was our first-ever cultural festival and a joyous celebration of Latin American culture. Spearheaded by South American residents in our Cultural Forum, the event featured live music, traditional dances, and mouthwatering Latin cuisine.

Held at the Eastgate Community Centre, Fiesta Latina brought the warmth and vibrancy of Latin culture to Ebbsfleet, offering residents a chance to experience the energy and artistry of the region. It was such a success that it inspired us to create the annual Creative Exchange Cultural Festivals, which continue to grow in size and ambition each year.

Through these festivals, The Creative Exchange continues to enrich the cultural landscape of Ebbsfleet, inviting everyone to celebrate the world’s incredible diversity and creativity right on their doorstep.

“Thank you for organising such a fantastic event to integrate the Latin American community in Kent. We had a great time and met lovely people.”
