Our organisation began back in 2007 in Lincoln as Blueprint: Film Foundation. Our founders grew up in rural Lincolnshire, without access to the wider arts, because of how remote their area was. From this experience, Blueprint: Film Foundation was created to offer film and arts provisions in areas with little arts activity and engagement.
In 2020, we changed our name to Blueprint Arts Foundation, as it aligned more with our organisation’s focus on multiple art forms. Our team has grown and developed to showcase a broader scope of arts skills, and we wanted our name to reflect this.
Today, we use a range of art forms as a medium for developing social and interpersonal skills, to improve quality of life and inspire those we work with.
Blueprint Arts is an inclusive and collaborative arts organisation. Art, creativity and culture are our passions, and we use them to transform communities, showcasing local artistic talent and skill. We truly believe that people of all ages and from all backgrounds should have the opportunity to experience art and culture, discovering their own creativity and benefitting from the experience of others.
Our vision is to reach into the communities we work with, and embed arts and culture within the fabric of their everyday lives. We support personal development, community cohesion, and wellbeing, whilst recognising and encouraging the development of dynamic and fabulous people and places. Working together, we will celebrate the people who make up our communities, who they are, and where they’ve come from. We know from personal experiences that sharing through creativity and exploring the arts can help us flourish and grow in many other aspects of our lives.
We deliver our work in East London (mainly Tower Hamlets and Hackney) and Kent (mainly Gravesham and Dartford). We have strong links to all the areas we work in, with at least one of our staff or board members living in each area, being part of the community there and understanding where we deliver our work. We want to make sure we offer meaningful and deeply beneficial projects that are shaped and led by the communities they serve.
Laura has been working in participatory arts for nearly 20 years. She is from a working-class background and didn’t have an easy childhood, but after her experiences at a youth theatre transformed her life, she knew that she wanted to dedicate her career to trying to do the same for others.
Laura has been with Blueprint for 11 years, first as a freelancer, when we were Blueprint Film Foundation and now as Artistic Director. She is very excited about taking Blueprint Arts on its new and exciting journey into a broader scope of artistic work with communities. Her greatest passion is for spectacular and celebratory outdoor arts performances developed by and for communities.
