‘Mouthful’ was a large-scale community project funded by Ebbsfleet Development Corporation and Clarion Housing. This was a Creative Exchange project, meaning it was run in collaboration with our Cultural Forum. You can read more about them here!

The project’s main deliverable was a recipe book developed by the community, for the community. We know that food brings people together and is an accessible way to engage with different cultures, and this book became a celebration of that. Ebbsfleet is incredibly diverse, and throughout the course of the project we worked with residents from a wide range of backgrounds to bring the book together.

As part of the project, we:

• Paired local residents with local chefs to collaborate on bespoke recipe development for inclusion in the book.
• Invited recipe submissions from local residents, giving them the opportunity to share a slice of their culture with the wider community.
• Recorded oral histories behind submitted recipes wherever possible.
• Delivered community outreach workshops.
• Delivered school workshops, enabling young people to develop recipes as a group.
• The culmination of all this work took place on 20 June, when we hosted a food festival to launch the recipe book. The festival featured local food vendors, art and food workshops, live music, demonstrations, and more, bringing the community together to celebrate the project’s achievements.
